For festivals and events that bring communities together. The Program invests in community events and activities that foster community harmony and celebrate cultural diversity as a precious part of our identity and way of life.


Applications Open: until Friday 20 September 2019

Funding available

  • Up to $10,000 from Multicultural NSW for "Events" that bring communities together and showcase cultural diversity.
  • Up to $40,000 from Multicultural NSW for "Projects" that make a lasting impact on social cohesion at a grassroots level.

Supported projects

  • Events - Local rugby festivals that promote themselves to a culturally diverse audience.
  • Projects - Implementation of an ongoing club program to encourage culturally diverse participation.

For infrastructure projects that deliver positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes, while promoting community participation, inclusion and cohesion.

Funding available

  • Funding amount for 2019 is to be advised.  As a guideline, grants in 2018 were for amounts between $2500 and $330,000. The average grant awarded was around $20,000.

Supported projects

  • Infrastructure that enhances the community and increases community participation.

The Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund is for the development and construction of new sport facilities or the upgrade and/or expansion of existing sport facilities.  Projects should focus on increasing participation and promoting female and family participation, and inclusion of multicultural communities and participants of all abilities.

Funding available

  • Grants between $500,000 and $5,000,000.

  • Projects costing more than $1 million will require a 25% financial co-contribution of the grant amount requested.

Supported projects

  • Projects for facilities capable of attracting and hosting regional, state and national championships and/or professional matches.  
  • Projects that remove barriers to promote inclusion in sport.
  • Amenity buildings such as storage, kiosks, club rooms, change rooms and grandstands

The fund is for community projects in regional NSW and strongly encourages youth-related projects (12-24 years old).

Funding available

  • Projects must seek grant funding of $50,000 or more. 
  • Projects requiring grant funding of more than $1 million will only be considered where there is a financial co-contribution of at least 25 per cent of the total grant amount.

Supported projects

  • Youth-related projects must be for development of new or upgrades to existing infrastructure for young people or delivering programs for young people. and aligned to the areas of community, well-being, connectivity and work readiness. 
  • General community amenity projects must be for construction of new, or upgrades to existing, local sporting infrastructure or delivering programs that benefit the local community.

SUGGESTED PROJECTS

  • NSWRU has identified some common funding requests for regional NSW Clubs, being:
  1. Mental Health Initiative - "Get Talkin' Tour"
  2. Sporting Field Water Tanks
  3. Indigenous Participation Initiative - "Deadly 7s"
  4. Female Change Rooms
  • To assist with preparation of applications for the above requests, NSWRU has prepared responses for Clubs to use when making applications.  Clubs should not feel compelled to use these responses, however, all Clubs are welcome to use the material in your applications. 
  • All Clubs should have received these responses as attachments in an email.

Letters of Support: A Letter of Support from NSW Rugby Union will also assist your application.  Please let us know via email by 22 July 2019 if you are planning on making an application and we will provide you with a Letter of Support prior to the deadline.  You do not need to have your full application ready by 22 July - we just need you to register your intention to apply by that date.
